The first thing Magnus does -- with Alex's help -- after fully healing is board up the hole in the side of the greenhouse where the cheetah ran through. The second thing, once he learns the full scope of Dark (it's different at camp; he'd already taken out a ton of camp-appropriate food for when Galahad and Laertes couldn't make it out there, and so he and Alex have been fine on the eating front) is go to the greenhouse again to figure out what plants in there yield edible produce. (Also, he tries to scrub his blood off the table. It... partially works?)

Partly it's that he's still feeling weird after the whole affair. The season doesn't help, but he does feel closer to his own mortality than pretty much any point since he died for real the first time. Being around growing plants helps that. Mostly, though, it's because he doesn't want anyone to get, like, scurvy living on bushels of rice alone.

He doesn't want to overtax any of the plants, but some can be cajoled into fruiting. Right now, he's got his hand on a kumquat tree, and he's trying to convince it that it can speed up the growth process by a few weeks. Drosera is with him, 'helping:' she's found a dead leaf, and she's chasing it down the pathway between some plants. If anyone shows up -- either because they've heard of his near-death experience and want to check in on him, or just to hang out, or even because they're drawn by the way it looks like sunlight is coming from the greenhouse itself -- he'll be glad for the company.

"Perhaps in the past, but this time thou wilt be searching for long-lost royalty, hidden in obscurity. It's a social quest, thou canst ask questions. I will tell thee Galahad doesn't count, bastards don't inherit."

"Dude."

"It's true."

[summerdude]

"It's a little mean."

[sagramore]

"His friend Percival is the same. And Mordred, of course. Misbegotten."

[summerdude]

Magnus considers this for a few moments, and then shakes his head. "Not worth it," he decides. He doesn't realize that he's touching his pendants -- both Jack and Lan Wangji's jade token. "I'm done with quests."

"Fair enough."

[summerdude]

He takes a deep breath and lets it go, reaching for any plant with his free hand. "'Kay."

[sagramore]

"I'm sorry," a little softer. "I shouldn't sport with thee."

[summerdude]

"No, it's fine," Magnus says, immediately and frankly rather aspirationally. "Just, like. Weird week."

[sagramore]

"It sounds like it."

[summerdude]

Magnus shrugs, stroking the leaf of whatever it is he's touching. "I'm just, like. Kinda sick of fighting for my life. You can put that one on my list of controversial opinions, if you want. 'Kinda sick of close calls.'"

[sagramore]

"I think that's eminently fair."

[summerdude]

"Is it a big deal to be a bastard? Where you're from?"

[sagramore]

"Not really. They usually get sent to court, since they can't take over a kingdom or a lordship, but their fathers supply them with stipends and ease their passage through their connections. For Mordred it was different because his father is the king."

[summerdude]

"Oh yeah. I think I've heard of him."

[sagramore]

"My brother." Since here it seems to bear clarifying, he does add, "Figuratively speaking."

[summerdude]

Magnus raises his eyebrows at Sagramore. "Blood brother?"

[sagramore]

"Mm. I owe him a life debt."

[summerdude]

"Is that how you become a blood brother?"

[sagramore]

"It's one way."

[summerdude]

"I thought it was about bleeding on each other."

[sagramore]

"That's also an option. Swearing a blood oath. It's done. We did bleed on each other, of course, but it wasn't intentional."

Magnus considers this. "I think I prefer my method," he decides.
