I Lived, Grinch! [open post]

The first thing Magnus does -- with Alex's help -- after fully healing is board up the hole in the side of the greenhouse where the cheetah ran through. The second thing, once he learns the full scope of Dark (it's different at camp; he'd already taken out a ton of camp-appropriate food for when Galahad and Laertes couldn't make it out there, and so he and Alex have been fine on the eating front) is go to the greenhouse again to figure out what plants in there yield edible produce. (Also, he tries to scrub his blood off the table. It... partially works?)

Partly it's that he's still feeling weird after the whole affair. The season doesn't help, but he does feel closer to his own mortality than pretty much any point since he died for real the first time. Being around growing plants helps that. Mostly, though, it's because he doesn't want anyone to get, like, scurvy living on bushels of rice alone.

He doesn't want to overtax any of the plants, but some can be cajoled into fruiting. Right now, he's got his hand on a kumquat tree, and he's trying to convince it that it can speed up the growth process by a few weeks. Drosera is with him, 'helping:' she's found a dead leaf, and she's chasing it down the pathway between some plants. If anyone shows up -- either because they've heard of his near-death experience and want to check in on him, or just to hang out, or even because they're drawn by the way it looks like sunlight is coming from the greenhouse itself -- he'll be glad for the company.

Grantaire glances at the game again, a mixture of astonished and amused. "Unfortunate, but I don't think you have much to worry about. At this point, I'm just wondering if you'll manage the high score on the first ball or if it will take you two."

[summerdude]

Magnus shoots a glance at Grantaire out of the corner of his eye. "She told me she, like, dared Enjolras to dye his hair," he says, a little teasingly, and then curses again and has to do a nudge the machine to keep the ball in play.

He blinks. "Enjolras? Dye his-- what co-- no, that would.. why wou... Wait, what was that? Can you do that to the table?"

[summerdude]

"The nudge? Yeah, it's part of the game," Magnus says.

[futaille]

"Huh. That's... useful. I have to remember that."

[summerdude]

"Yeah, you just can't overdo it," says Magnus, promptly overdoing it -- not even on purpose! -- and losing his first ball of his game. He takes a deep breath, stretches, and launches his second.

[futaille]

"Thank you for the object lesson," he says, amused. "Also, you're significantly better at this game than you advertised yourself. I think your perception is skewed by having friends who are apparently otherworldly at it."

[summerdude]

Magnus glances at his score, which is dismally low. "If you say so."

[futaille]

Citation needed on that 'dismally low', Magnus. "I do say so, and I so rarely say anything with any degree of conviction whatsoever that it bears listening to."

[summerdude]

"Huh."

[futaille]

"The game's high score right now is a bit over fifty five million. Now, I'm terrible at mathematics, but..."

[summerdude]

"Well, I'm not any better," Magnus says, cursing as he loses his second ball in short order. He takes a moment to stretch and crack his neck. "I'm a high school dropout and no one here has given me any geometry lessons." Then he takes a deep breath and launches his final ball. "Who else plays?"

[futaille]

"Oh, I showed Lancelot how to play. He's been trying to catch up to my high score."

[summerdude]

"Lancelot plays games?!" Magnus can't picture it. He spends so long failing to picture it that it's only a last-minute nudge that saves his ball.

[futaille]

"Lancelot plays games. He's been practicing a lot, too."

[summerdude]

"Weird," Magnus breathes.

[futaille]

"It's been very entertaining."

[summerdude]

"Yeah, I'll bet."

[futaille]

"So yes, it's fun playing with him."

[summerdude]

"Will wonders never cease," Magnus muses, pulling off something even he can recognize as a sick move with an expertly-deployed flipper.

[futaille]

"I did not know that was possible." He means the sick move, although it's probably subject to interpretation.

[summerdude]

"What?" Magnus is now fully in the zone.

[futaille]

"That shot. It was impressive."

[summerdude]

"Oh! Thanks." Hearth could've done it better. Also, Magnus is still stuck on this revelation. "Lancelot is really genuinely fun to play with? Even with his vibes?"

[futaille]

Grantaire has no real idea what he means by said vibes, but at least he knows the answer to the first question. "He's genuinely fun to play with."
