New Plan, Step One: Provide For My Community [open]

Magnus needs something to change, so when a Mansion calendar helpfully informs him that it's International Falafel Day back on Earth, he goes to the library for some cookbooks, and then to the kitchen.

He lays out ten different falafel recipes. He gathers the ingredients they list, as best as he can understand them. He has canned chickpeas and fresh chickpeas and dried chickpeas and chickpea flour and box mixes of falafel that say 'just add water!'

Cripes.

"I can do this," he says, peering at the assorted recipes intently for a good ten minutes, and then takes the dried chickpeas over to the sink to rinse and soak.

"Yeah, but she'd bite things for her brother and sister, too? I haven't given her anything riskier than she's already had."

[vineleaves]

"What do you mean her--" Wait wait wait, time out. "You can talk with babies?"

[summerdude]

"You can't?"

[vineleaves]

"She's not speaking an actual language, so no, I can't." Dionysus is, however, now wondering why Apollo, the god of protecting children, can't understand Sunny, if Magnus can. Were babies one of the things he rattled off about his father when they were in that closet?

"Is -- is she okay? I've not known what to think about her being here. Grantaire suggested she might be here as a rescue attempt by the mansion spirits. You said -- she's got a brother and a sister?"

Huh. Maybe that's why? Animal also don't speak actual languages. "Violet and Klaus," he reports. "She's, uh, had it rough, but she's good now. Outside of missing them."

[vineleaves]

"Her... family life wasn't good then, I take it? Other than the siblings she misses?" He absolutely hates that Grantaire's theory is correct. That poor baby.

[summerdude]

"No, she loves her whole family. She's, um, an orphan though and, like, the foster system sucks, so." Not that Magnus would know from personal experience; he neatly elided the foster system by immediately going on the run as soon as his mom died!

[vineleaves]

“That poor darling,” he says, definitely tearing up at the thought of a foster system so bad an infant Sunny’s age is going to notice enough to apparently comment on it. He knows it’s not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but it must have failed her in pretty drastic ways for her to already be aware like that.

[summerdude]

"Or, I guess, whatever the equivalent is where she comes from," Magnus amends.

[vineleaves]

"Yeah..." he says, still distressed for a beat before he smiles a little. "I'm glad she's got you then, to understand her. That's got to have made it easier for her to get a grasp of what's going on here."

[summerdude]

"Oh, she understands everything everyone else says."

[vineleaves]

"Yeah, but if she has a question or concern about something and voices it to me, I'm not necessarily going to know what she's asking, to know what to tell her."

[summerdude]

"Oh. Yeah. Good point."

[vineleaves]

"Is there... is there anything she's been unhappy with here? Other than missing her brother and sister?"

[summerdude]

"Nah, not really," says Magnus. And then he blinks and shakes his head. "She doesn't like Asmodean."
