Magnus needs something to change, so when a Mansion calendar helpfully informs him that it's International Falafel Day back on Earth, he goes to the library for some cookbooks, and then to the kitchen.

He lays out ten different falafel recipes. He gathers the ingredients they list, as best as he can understand them. He has canned chickpeas and fresh chickpeas and dried chickpeas and chickpea flour and box mixes of falafel that say 'just add water!'

Cripes.

"I can do this," he says, peering at the assorted recipes intently for a good ten minutes, and then takes the dried chickpeas over to the sink to rinse and soak.

"I kinda wanna try this first."

"Very well, thou'rt undoubtedly better at this than I."

[summerdude]

That is a lot of faith in a guy who has almost never made anything on his own before! "Cool," says Magnus, piling the sprouted chickpeas into the food processor.

To be fair, neither has Mercutio! He's just assuming Magnus knows more of what he's doing than he does. He is entirely distracted from his chopping now, watching Magnus with the food processor curiously.

Magnus starts piling in more stuff: all the seasonings in the recipe, carefully double-checked. Then he gestures for Mercutio to add in the stuff he's been chopping.

Mercutio does so, then, and settles back to see what mysteries this machine with the blades will bring them. Hopefully it will be something halfway edible when it's done.

Crossing his fingers, Magnus blitzes it again -- then frowns. He's not actually sure what he should be looking for. "That seems good, right?"

[bymyheelies]

Neither is Mercutio, so this should be ...interesting. "...Ay?" he says questioningly. "I do not know what it should look like, but it seems fine enough."

[summerdude]

"Well, let's try it!" Magnus gets out a pot, fills it with oil, and puts it on the stove on low. Low seems safe. Less likely to catch on fire.

Hopefully. Mercutio continues to watch, intrigued. "What else is there to add?"

[summerdude]

"Um. We turn it into balls and cook it?"

[bymyheelies]

“Alright.” That sounds fun, at least; and he dives into making balls happily.

[summerdude]

While the oil heats, Magnus pitches in. He's not sure how well the falafel should hold together, so it's probably fine that it's a little crumbly?

[bymyheelies]

Probably! Mercutio has no idea either, so he's just going along with whatever Magnus says at this point.

[summerdude]

Eventually, they have a row of slumpy little balls. "Okay," says Magnus. "Um, I guess we put them into the oil now?"
