Magnus needs something to change, so when a Mansion calendar helpfully informs him that it's International Falafel Day back on Earth, he goes to the library for some cookbooks, and then to the kitchen.

He lays out ten different falafel recipes. He gathers the ingredients they list, as best as he can understand them. He has canned chickpeas and fresh chickpeas and dried chickpeas and chickpea flour and box mixes of falafel that say 'just add water!'

Cripes.

"I can do this," he says, peering at the assorted recipes intently for a good ten minutes, and then takes the dried chickpeas over to the sink to rinse and soak.

It looks nothing like the falafel Magnus is used to. "Huh," he says, poking it. "Wild."

"Not good?"

[summerdude]

"It looks different," Magnus says, "but I don't know why?"

[sporesprouter]

"I'm not as familiar with falafel as you are, unfortunately, so I couldn't say. I've only had it at Wanderers Gather."

[summerdude]

"Well, let's finish making them," Magnus says. "I bet they're great. You're really good at this stuff."

"It's just a lot of practice." She dollops another spoonful in.

[summerdude]

Magnus sighs. "You're being reasonable again."

[sporesprouter]

"I've kind of always been reasonable. I know it's boring."

[summerdude]

"No, no, I'm like, really impressed, actually."

[sporesprouter]

"Oh." She smiles a little and flips the falafel. "Well, thank you."

[summerdude]

"Speaking of! Maybe you can help me out," Magnus says, watching as it fries. "Have you ever been to a bachelorette party?"

Tress shakes her head. "No, I'm sorry. I honestly can't think of when I would have been."

[summerdude]

"Well, you're coming to Galahad's," Magnus says. "Formal invitation to come. I'm trying to think of what foods we should taste-test."

"Definitely some pastries, at least."

[summerdude]

"Oh yeah, for sure."

[sporesprouter]

"And if it's for Galahad, obviously some of his favorite things."

[summerdude]

"Oh, absolutely. But there has to be new stuff to try, too."

[sporesprouter]

"Oh, of course. When is the party going to be?"

[summerdude]

"Before the wedding sometime?"

[sporesprouter]

"I would hope! Have they set a date yet? I think it should be pretty close but not so close that it gets in the way of actual wedding preparations."

[summerdude]

"Galahad said spring sometime, but spring lasts forever. Maybe in a month or two?" Magnus pauses. "I'm kind of, like. Hoping Shen Yuan comes back first. Because he's on the list."

[sporesprouter]

"I hope so too, then. It would be awful if he couldn't make it. The schedule does give us time to look for good recipes, though." She puts the next falafel on the paper towels beside the first.

"You'll help me?" he asks, eagerly.

[sporesprouter]

"Of course I will!"

[summerdude]

"You're a lifesaver, Tress Mystery Name Lastname."
