Magnus needs something to change, so when a Mansion calendar helpfully informs him that it's International Falafel Day back on Earth, he goes to the library for some cookbooks, and then to the kitchen.

He lays out ten different falafel recipes. He gathers the ingredients they list, as best as he can understand them. He has canned chickpeas and fresh chickpeas and dried chickpeas and chickpea flour and box mixes of falafel that say 'just add water!'

Cripes.

"I can do this," he says, peering at the assorted recipes intently for a good ten minutes, and then takes the dried chickpeas over to the sink to rinse and soak.

"Soon to be followed by, like, three more. When I defeat you on the field of battle."

"I welcome the challenge," a but dryly.

[summerdude]

"I bet you do." Magnus surveys the clean-up job, which is pretty decent, and the sad piles of falafel recipes spread across the countertops that exist now as a monument to his failure. He's a little bummed that they didn't turn out? But he also has, bizarrely, been having a great time despite the epic mush they produced.

Grudgingly -- so very grudgingly that it might seem as if the tone is thoroughly put upon -- Magnus grumbles, "Thanks. By the way."

Lancelot pauses, glancing at Magnus, then claps his shoulder briefly. "You are most welcome."

[summerdude]

"It's been, like. A tough few days." Weeks. Months. Whatever. "But this has been, like," and he rolls his eyes extravagantly. "Kinda nice. Or whatever. Even though the falafel, um, wasn't."

[lanselos_du_lac]

His expression softens a little, but he says lightly, "Well. Hopefully we both learned what not to do." After a pause he says, "It has been nice."

[summerdude]

Part of Magnus wants to say don't let it go to your head, but part of him... doesn't? Instead, he says, "Okay, but I don't know what I learned here. Like. Do you know what went wrong?"

[lanselos_du_lac]

"We neither of us know anything about-- whatever the beans are. I can't recall the name."

[summerdude]

"Chickpeas. I know all about them." Magnus raises his eyebrows. "Eating them. Maybe growing them?" He certainly sprouted them a little there earlier.

[lanselos_du_lac]

"Ah, but cooking with them?"

[summerdude]

Magnus... flips him off. A (dare he say it) friendly sort of finger.

[lanselos_du_lac]

He laughs, shrugging again, "I could not even recall the name, so you've outdone me, anyway."

[summerdude]

"Yeah, well." Magnus goes to the fridge and gets some falafel wraps out. Mansion-produced, not Magnus-created. "This is what we were going for." He hands Lancelot one with a sigh.

[lanselos_du_lac]

He unwraps it and examines it briefly before taking a bite. At which point, his eyebrows go up.

After a moment he says, "That's good."

"See??????"

[lanselos_du_lac]

"We shall have to try again."

[summerdude]

"Yeah, okay. I guess that could be fun." It's the exaggeratedly-grudging tone again.

[lanselos_du_lac]

"Or not," lightly. He leans against the counter and continues eating the falafel wrap, putting on an air of being totally unbothered.

[summerdude]

"Tell you what," Magnus decides, after a bite of his own wrap. "I'll let you cook with me again sometime, if you manage to beat me during practice today."

[lanselos_du_lac]

Lancelot can't help himself; he laughs. "Yes. Very well. I agree."

[summerdude]

Magnus gives him one of his desultory salutes. "Cool," he says. "I guess I'll see you there, then."

Lancelot nods and gives a very small bow, "Until then, Magnus."
