Magnus is walking down the front steps of the Mansion, freshly-loaded bag of food in tow, ruminating on a few of his most recent and devastatingly embarrassing conversations, when he hears footsteps behind him.

Well. He did tell Galahad he'd ask everyone. Might as well start now. "Can you explain the birds and the bees -- I mean, sex -- to me?" he demands, even before he sees who it is.

"Okay," says Magnus. "Are you ready?" He holds his hand aloft. "Up high."

[futaille]

"Ready." At the 'up high', he goes for the high five again.

[summerdude]

After a very satisfying slap, Magnus moves his hand about halfway down his body. "In the middle."

[futaille]

"Ooh, variety." Middle five it is.

[summerdude]

"Aaaaand," moving his hand lower still, "Down low." Then, just as Grantaire is starting to react, he jerks his hand away. "Too slow!"

[futaille]

It's almost a tragedy that the rhyme there doesn't translate, because Grantaire would very much appreciate it. As is, though, the trick itself delights him and he laughs. "You caught me napping. Advanced tactics indeed."

"There's another variation!" Magnus says, grinning. "Up high," hand aloft again.

[futaille]

He goes for another high five, very curious as to where it's going this time.

[summerdude]

"Down low." This time he keeps his hand steady, waiting for Grantaire's low-five.

[futaille]

It's a low-five, then, and Grantaire's curiosity is piqued.

[summerdude]

"In the middle," Magnus says, and again waits until Grantaire just starts to move before lunging (politely, and wary of his own strength) in. "Tickle tickle!"

[futaille]

He bursts into laughter at the tickling, but recovers enough to jump back. "What a variation."

[summerdude]

"Yeah," Magnus says. "That's definitely a version you only wanna bust out with friends. But that's the gist of it all! Usually we use high fives as a sign of approval, but also, like, excitement. Or camaraderie."

[futaille]

"Some of my friends would have absolutely adored that version," he says, grinning. "And I thank you for the education."

[summerdude]

"No problemo, dude," Magnus says. "Now you can go out and spread the gospel with me."

[futaille]

"Truly a more delightful gospel than many."

[summerdude]

Something occurs to Magnus, and he gives Grantaire a funky sort of grin. "I may not know a lot about sex," he says, "But I do know that if you've both done a really good job, you should high-five after."

[futaille]

He laughs. "If that works for you, absolutely."

[summerdude]

"Dude, I'm giving you advice right now," Magnus says, laughing. "In thanks."

[futaille]

"It seems to me it was less advice and more of a dare," he says easily. "Not that it isn't a compelling one, of course."

[summerdude]

"Sometimes me and Alex high five after a good kiss," Magnus says, wisely. "Always makes it even better. You totally should have high-fived Enjolras at the dance."

[futaille]

"Would have been slightly difficult since I didn't know what a high five was at the time, but it certainly would have made an impression."

[summerdude]

"So. For future reference!"

[futaille]

"For future reference. Although, if I have the energy for a high five after sex, I don't know that I'll think I've earned the high five."

[summerdude]

"...it uses that much energy???!" Magnus can't imagine this.
