New Plan, Step One: Provide For My Community [open]

Magnus needs something to change, so when a Mansion calendar helpfully informs him that it's International Falafel Day back on Earth, he goes to the library for some cookbooks, and then to the kitchen.

He lays out ten different falafel recipes. He gathers the ingredients they list, as best as he can understand them. He has canned chickpeas and fresh chickpeas and dried chickpeas and chickpea flour and box mixes of falafel that say 'just add water!'

Cripes.

"I can do this," he says, peering at the assorted recipes intently for a good ten minutes, and then takes the dried chickpeas over to the sink to rinse and soak.

"It's exciting to be creative," says Magnus, tossing Lancelot his trademark shit-eating grin.

"I see. A critical difference."

[summerdude]

"So, anyway, your thirty-six boyfriends don't think you're funny????"

[lanselos_du_lac]

"Only two do," setting aside the clean mixing bowl, "and perhaps Sagramore. Who is not my 'boyfriend'."

[summerdude]

"Only two of your thirty-six boyfriends? That's a terrible ratio."

[lanselos_du_lac]

"Well, Susan also, but she is not a boyfriend."

[summerdude]

"You should dump the other thirty-four," Magnus says, wisely. "You know how the saying goes: no scrubs." Then he pauses. "Wait. You just said no one knows that you're funny! Are you--" an exaggerated gasp "--a liar? Are you lying to a little guy?"

He puts on an especially thoughtful air, "Are jokes lies?"

[summerdude]

"Yes," Magnus joke/lies.

[lanselos_du_lac]

"Ah, unfortunate. I am not a liar."

[summerdude]

Yet another thing Lancelot and Galahad have in common! Is that, like, genetic? Could Magnus ask Claudius? "Sounds like something a liar would say."

[lanselos_du_lac]

"If that is the case, then there's no way for me to convince you."

[summerdude]

"I take it back. You're not funny."

[lanselos_du_lac]

"Ahh, now who is engaged in lying?"

[summerdude]

"Yeah, but I never claimed not to be a liar!" He's not, to be fair, much of one... unless, of course, survival is on the line. Or, apparently, goading Lancelot into... whatever it is he's doing here.

[lanselos_du_lac]

"Hrm. Not during this conversation, that's true."

[summerdude]

"So there," says Magnus, triumphantly. He may have lost the plot.

[lanselos_du_lac]

"Very well. Have thy victory."

[summerdude]

"Soon to be followed by, like, three more. When I defeat you on the field of battle."

[lanselos_du_lac]

"I welcome the challenge," a but dryly.

[summerdude]

"I bet you do." Magnus surveys the clean-up job, which is pretty decent, and the sad piles of falafel recipes spread across the countertops that exist now as a monument to his failure. He's a little bummed that they didn't turn out? But he also has, bizarrely, been having a great time despite the epic mush they produced.

Grudgingly -- so very grudgingly that it might seem as if the tone is thoroughly put upon -- Magnus grumbles, "Thanks. By the way."

Lancelot pauses, glancing at Magnus, then claps his shoulder briefly. "You are most welcome."

[summerdude]

"It's been, like. A tough few days." Weeks. Months. Whatever. "But this has been, like," and he rolls his eyes extravagantly. "Kinda nice. Or whatever. Even though the falafel, um, wasn't."

[lanselos_du_lac]

His expression softens a little, but he says lightly, "Well. Hopefully we both learned what not to do." After a pause he says, "It has been nice."

[summerdude]

Part of Magnus wants to say don't let it go to your head, but part of him... doesn't? Instead, he says, "Okay, but I don't know what I learned here. Like. Do you know what went wrong?"
