I Turn, Um... Uh... Sixteen? For The Tenth? Time???? [open post]

It's Magnus's birthday and he is a man with a surplus of plans. And many, many plastic recorders.

He's still a little overstimulated from the birthday party Galahad got Claudius to throw for the two of them — he loves all his friends, but that was a lot of people in one space, most of whom were also feeling many, many things about their visitors — and so it's been a quiet few days. Sunny is still a little subdued, so they've been having muted hangouts in the mornings; Galahad, also overstimulated from their birthday party, has fortunately been on Magnus's wavelength about just sailing around aimlessly on the Big Banana with many snacks and very little conversation during their daily hangs for the past few days. He drags himself to sword practice with Lancelot once or twice, has his weekly dinner at Hanguang-jun's, spends a great solo afternoon cleaning out Little John's cave in case anyone else wants to use it at some point, and lets Alex tease him into wrestling and, um, other stuff after dinner basically every night.

But on this, the twenty-sixth anniversary of Magnus's actual birth, most of his energy has returned to him. He's made birthday dinner plans with just his immediate family (and also Alex and Hanguang-jun) at their house for the evening. He's had his liveliest morning of the week. And with his newly regained energy he's found critical supplies for his afternoon: a roll of duct tape, several trash bags, eight recorders, a handful of hollow pens, and a dream. He's sitting cross-legged in the middle of the Mansion's lawn, a look of grave concentration on his face, as he makes little holes in a bag, duct tapes two recorders and one pen here and there, and then seals it all up.

And then he takes a deep breath, fits his mouth to the hollow pen, and blows the bag up. When he places it under his arm and squeezes, he's gratified to find that his makeshift bagpipes work perfectly. And he still has supplies for a couple more!



I know everyone is still busy with visitor's day so feel free to take your time on this one... but I would love to ultimately have a ton of Chaos Thread Opportunities.

Sunny can't see the box of dice in question. "How big? Talkie talkie bigger than dices."

[summerdude]

"The box is really big." Magnus eases it off the shelf and gives it a shake. It says DICE on the side in Sharpie marker, and it rattles like there's hundreds of dice inside.

[biteybaby]

"Let's look!"

[summerdude]

He thumps it on the floor next to Sunny and sits on the other side. "Okay," he says, pulling it open. There are hundreds of dice inside. He starts sifting through them.

[biteybaby]

Sunny starts digging through it. "These dices look weird." Usually dices only look like boxes, but there's different shapes in here too.

[summerdude]

"I think they're dice for special games? I bet Shen Yuan would know."

[biteybaby]

Sunny finds one that is almost a ball it has so many sides, but it's made out of clear plastic and she can see a teeny tiny little yellow duckie on the inside. She carefully sets that one in their pile of stuff to take home.

"Should have brought wagon," she says, looking at it all.

[summerdude]

"We'll figure it out," Magnus promises her. "You have big arms, you can carry most of that stuff, right?"

[biteybaby]

"I big strong!"

[summerdude]

"The biggest and the strongest." While Sunny continues sorting through the dice, Magnus goes back to searching for walkie talkies.

[biteybaby]

Sunny bets these would be fun to crunch.

[summerdude]

"Oooh... slinkies!" Magnus tosses some of them down to Sunny for her to investigate.

[biteybaby]

Sunny has a big, roundish, sparkly green dice halfway to her mouth when Magnu throws the slinkies. One of them lands and starts walking itself in Sunny's direction, which causes her to abandon the scientific study of the crunchability of dices, and grab the slinky instead.

[summerdude]

Magnus glances down to watch, and then his eyes grow wide as he takes in the implication of the location of her cute chubby little hand clenched tight around a dice and its proximity to her mouth. "Also, um, Sunny... you shouldn't try to eat the dice."

[biteybaby]

"I know." She wasn't going to eat it. She was just going to bite it and see how that went.

[summerdude]

"Or bite it and spit it out again."

[biteybaby]

"Oh." She looks at it, then back up at Magnu. "Why?"

[summerdude]

"Because I'm pretty sure it's made with stuff that isn't safe for anyone's mouth. Even yours."

[biteybaby]

"Poison??" Sunny says, immediately dropping the dice and staring at it, betrayed.

[summerdude]

"Only if you put it in your mouth. It's safe to touch," Magnus assures her.

[biteybaby]

"Oh. You sure?"

[summerdude]

"Pinky swear."

[biteybaby]

"Okay." She starts rolling it around on the floor, like a very small ball. Were she paying better attention she would notice every time it lands with the side that says '20' facing up, and were she the type of person who plays role playing games that are dice-based, she would understand why that's exciting. It is, unfortunately, a bit lost on her, but she's at least having fun pretending it's a ball.

[summerdude]

"We're gonna have to find you a bowling alley soon, huh?" Magnus asks, watching her for a moment before remembering he has a Task At Hand and turning back to the shelves.

[biteybaby]

"Dunno how to bowling."
