Magnus is walking down the front steps of the Mansion, freshly-loaded bag of food in tow, ruminating on a few of his most recent and devastatingly embarrassing conversations, when he hears footsteps behind him.

Well. He did tell Galahad he'd ask everyone. Might as well start now. "Can you explain the birds and the bees -- I mean, sex -- to me?" he demands, even before he sees who it is.

"Why is it called the birds and the bees?" Temeraire says curiously. "Mating is a thing everyone does, not just birds and bees."

"Figure of speech!" Magnus squints at Temeraire. He hadn't expected the dragon, but now he's curious. "How do dragons do it?"

He huffs. "Figures of speech are so very strange," he says disapprovingly. "In the usual way, of course. Males and females and such."

"Is that usual?" Is the dragon heteronormative??? Does Shen Yuan know about this?

"I should think so? I never got taught it, certainly, and it went alright with Mei and Iskierka." He pauses. "Unless you are talking about between a gentleman and a gentleman, or a lady and a lady," he adds, delicately. "I do not know of any dragons that are inclined so, but Iskierka and Immortalis' captains are."

So the dragon is heteronormative! Huh. "Do dragons do it like humans do?"

"How am I meant to know, I have never seen humans do such things," he says reasonably. Laurence has the good sense to do those things in a bedroom, thank you very much.

"Why!" He splutters a little, apparently Temeraire is in fact Far Too English for this discussion. "Surely I do not need to tell you, you are grown yourself."

"Dude. I only know how ring dragons are made. By putting on a magic ring that brings out their worst, most greedy inclinations, and then they transform from whatever they were before. As far as I know, lindworms could just, like... pupate. I have no idea how dragons do it."
