Magnus is walking down the front steps of the Mansion, freshly-loaded bag of food in tow, ruminating on a few of his most recent and devastatingly embarrassing conversations, when he hears footsteps behind him.

Well. He did tell Galahad he'd ask everyone. Might as well start now. "Can you explain the birds and the bees -- I mean, sex -- to me?" he demands, even before he sees who it is.

"I'm... not. I'm thinking of how incredibly lucky I am that he even agreed to a dance with me, much less what followed."

Okay. Well, then. The central thesis is still there. "Happy for you, my dude."

[futaille]

Central thesis definitely undisturbed. "Thank you. I didn't... think anyone was particularly invested in this, but thank you anyway."

"I'm invested in the happiness of all my friends," Magnus says, which is entirely true but doesn't capture the sort of emotional whiplash he sometimes gets when healing people or doxx Shen Yuan's fervently enthusiastic ways. "Whatever form that may take, as long as it doesn't involve trying to destroy the world or whatever."

"Destroying the world seems like entirely too much work. Besides, the world has nice food."

Magnus laughs. Yeah, he hadn't really thought Grantaire the type to destroy the world. "Good," he says, lightly. "Agreed! Then I won't have to defeat you in a truly embarrassing moment for both of us."

Grantaire is the type to truly destroy a bottle of liquor, but that's about it. "I swear to do my best to keep that from happening. Which means not changing anything, so it seems simple enough."

[summerdude]

"Nah, you can change things! That's the only tool we have against it," Magnus says. "Like for example, making out or, um, whatever, with your 'unrequited'" -- here he does scare quotes -- "secretly-requited hometown lover-boy."

Grantaire's eyebrows knit just a bit, incredulous. "I truly cannot imagine what you might have seen to make you think that."

[summerdude]

Magnus laughs. "Dude, we were all at that dance."

[futaille]

"Well, yes, it's at least somewhat requited now. It just wasn't before."

[summerdude]

"Okay," Magnus laughs. "Whatever, dude."

[futaille]

He shrugs and smiles a little, impossibly fond. "It doesn't matter much now anyway, I suppose."

[summerdude]

"Hell no it doesn't!" Magnus says, and holds his hand up for a high-five. "Up top, dude."

[futaille]

He looks very slightly uncertain about the gesture¹, he thinks he can figure out the proper response, so, hoping he has it right, he lifts his hand and, well, high-fives² Magnus.

¹ Fun fact! High five in noun form hit the dictionary the year I was born!² Not in verb form until the next year, though.

"Oh, nice one," says Magnus, impressed by the force of the slap.

He grins. "Oh good. I did do it right, then. I wasn't certain. I predate the gesture."

[summerdude]

"You've never high fived before??"

[futaille]

"Never once. I like the name, though. Simple but descriptive."

[summerdude]

"Gods," Magnus says, with a heavy sigh. "I'm gonna have to give everyone here high-five lessons."

[futaille]

Grantaire paints on an over-the-top solemn expression. "Oh. Spreading a gesture of joy to people who don't know it. How dreadful. Fate worse than death."

[summerdude]

"It's a heavy burden," Magnus says, nodding seriously. "Probably on par with averting the apocalypse? I suppose I'm due for another one of those guys, though."

[futaille]

"Well, as long as the high five lessons do in fact substitute in kind for the next apocalypse, I think we'll probably be fine."

[summerdude]

Magnus laughs. "You'll help me, right dude? Now that you know everything in the world about high fives you can be my, like, high five disciple and help me spread the word."

[futaille]

"I can make no promises, as I have in the past been a very poor disciple, but I vow to do my best, and spreading a gospel of enjoyment is magnitudes greater than others that might be spread in its stead."
