"And then we realized Frigg was knitting with clouds. Actual factual clouds," Magnus says, passing another box that, as it turns out, holds nothing useful down to Galahad. He climbs up another rung on the little stepladder and starts in on the next shelf. "How many boxes of Legos do we have so far?" He knows it's certainly not enough for a bachelorette party yet, but surely there's something they can go on. He'd kind of tonight that this far after Dark, there would be... more? "Do you think we should find another room to look in? Maybe the game room isn't the best choice."

"He's my friend. Not Claudius's. And Claudius is afraid of Luo Binghe. I wasn't going to ask him." He frowns a little; he's not actually sure how to encompass all the dynamics of it, how he loves Shen Yuan but that isn't in and of itself enough to expect Claudius to like or tolerate him, how he understands Shen Yuan loves Luo Binghe in the same way that Galahad loves Claudius, in a fierce and all-encompassing way that means Galahad doesn't expect Shen Yuan to forsake him or hear anything against him, and it's one thing to accept that in a friend but another thing to accept it in someone who would be at their wedding, who could stand before Claudius and try to defend his pain. Galahad loves Shen Yuan, but if he thought it hurt Claudius for them to be friends he wouldn't speak to Shen Yuan again; he wouldn't ask, because Claudius would pretend it was all right, he wants Galahad to have all the friends he possibly can now that he can have friends (Claudius pretends things don't hurt him, but Galahad has studied him, and he knows). All of that means that he expected Shen Yuan wouldn't be at the wedding, and he accepted it.

"I guess that explains the vibes when we told him about your bachelorette party," says Magnus, thoughtfully.

"The vibe?" He isn't as good with Shen Yuan's vibe as Magnus'.

"I think it took him a minute to rally. Like maybe he didn't expect an invite."

[onthewillowsthere]

"Oh. But that's different. It's for me."

[summerdude]

"To any of it," Magnus clarifies. "He looked surprised you were getting married."

[onthewillowsthere]

"Were you surprised?"

[summerdude]

"I can't remember," Magnus admits. "I think I was mostly immediately excited for you guys."

[onthewillowsthere]

"Me too."

[summerdude]

Magnus tweaks his nose again, dislodging another cloud of dragonflies. "I'd hope Proposal Guy would be immediately excited."

Galahad smiles, wrinkling his nose. Then he pauses. "Should I have a maid of honor?"

"I thought that was me?" Aren't maids of honor and best men the same thing?

[onthewillowsthere]

"You're going to give me away because you're my family."

[summerdude]

"Oh," Magnus says, deeply pleased. "Those are different things?"

[onthewillowsthere]

"Yes. The person who gives away the bride is her family, but the maid of honor is supposed to be a woman from the groom's family."

[summerdude]

"I thought that Claudius was going to be the bride? Are you both gonna be brides?"

[onthewillowsthere]

"Claudius is both," calmly confident. "And I'm neither, but Lady Post doesn't say what to do for neither, and you're giving me a bachelorette party, so I've been choosing the bride things."

Magnus considers this thoughtfully. A dragonfly lands on his nose, and he wrinkles it. "So you'd need to pick someone from Claudius's family to be your maid of honor?"

Galahad nods, slowly, so as not to disturb his own shawl of dragonflies.

"So that would be, like, Laertes or Hanguang-jun, right?"

[onthewillowsthere]

"Lan Wangji is already the best man. Is Laertes Claudius' family?"

[summerdude]

"Wait, so the maid of honor has to be from the groom's family but the best man doesn't have to be from the bride's family?"

[onthewillowsthere]

"No, the best man is someone who is important to the groom. It can be his brother or best friend."

[summerdude]

"Whoa," Magnus breathes. "That's so messed up. How come the bride has to populate her side with the groom's people but the groom doesn't have to do the same?" He blinks. "Is the wedding industry, like, sexist or something?" (Crucially, up until Galahad proposed to Claudius, the only wedding he'd thought he'd be involved with was Samirah and Amir's, and they'd been betrothed since before he met either of them, and they were following different traditions.)

"We have chosen not to consider the question of the dowry," perfectly solemn.
