I Turn, Um... Uh... Sixteen? For The Tenth? Time???? [open post]

It's Magnus's birthday and he is a man with a surplus of plans. And many, many plastic recorders.

He's still a little overstimulated from the birthday party Galahad got Claudius to throw for the two of them — he loves all his friends, but that was a lot of people in one space, most of whom were also feeling many, many things about their visitors — and so it's been a quiet few days. Sunny is still a little subdued, so they've been having muted hangouts in the mornings; Galahad, also overstimulated from their birthday party, has fortunately been on Magnus's wavelength about just sailing around aimlessly on the Big Banana with many snacks and very little conversation during their daily hangs for the past few days. He drags himself to sword practice with Lancelot once or twice, has his weekly dinner at Hanguang-jun's, spends a great solo afternoon cleaning out Little John's cave in case anyone else wants to use it at some point, and lets Alex tease him into wrestling and, um, other stuff after dinner basically every night.

But on this, the twenty-sixth anniversary of Magnus's actual birth, most of his energy has returned to him. He's made birthday dinner plans with just his immediate family (and also Alex and Hanguang-jun) at their house for the evening. He's had his liveliest morning of the week. And with his newly regained energy he's found critical supplies for his afternoon: a roll of duct tape, several trash bags, eight recorders, a handful of hollow pens, and a dream. He's sitting cross-legged in the middle of the Mansion's lawn, a look of grave concentration on his face, as he makes little holes in a bag, duct tapes two recorders and one pen here and there, and then seals it all up.

And then he takes a deep breath, fits his mouth to the hollow pen, and blows the bag up. When he places it under his arm and squeezes, he's gratified to find that his makeshift bagpipes work perfectly. And he still has supplies for a couple more!



I know everyone is still busy with visitor's day so feel free to take your time on this one... but I would love to ultimately have a ton of Chaos Thread Opportunities.

Magnus laughs, too. "Why do you want to scare Dad?"

[biteybaby]

She shrugs. "Dunno. Don't want to scare bad, just little bit scare."

[summerdude]

"We could set the doll up in the kitchen before breakfast one day so he sees it when he wakes up," Magnus suggests, climbing over to the next set of shelves.

[biteybaby]

"We can put it in the cabinet!" she says, excitedly. "Then him open cabinet and BOO! Creepy doll!"

[summerdude]

"Great idea. Maybe we can hang out with a camera to get a photo of the look on his face when he opens it, huh?"

[biteybaby]

"I want a camera!"

[summerdude]

Magnus laughs. "We can look for one of those, too." There don't seem to be any electronics on the top shelves in the room, so he hops down from his perch and starts looking at the middle shelves instead.

The next drawer Sunny looks in is reminiscent of those treasure chests of plastic gemstones frequently found in touristy gift shops, only instead of being a treasure chest full of plastic gemstones, it is a drawer full of plastic circles used for covering up bingo cards.

Magnus finds a box of broken VHS tapes with funny labels like crowley baby videos (universe existence day 2) and sagramore first steps! and susan + peter, 3rd bday party and lancelot training FAILS (1368) and fierro-thrym wedding, 2016 (this last one he moves to the bottom of the pile) and sunny prom dress and shen qingqiu crimes - supercut and fillory's funniest home videos! and BLOOPERS - thursday next.

Weird! They don't even have a VHS player. He pushes it to the side.

In the next drawer Sunny finds a box with a rectangle panda inside it, and thinks a rectangle panda is weird, so she pulls the box out to get another look.

Huh, she thinks.

"Huh," she says. She holds the box up towards Magnu for him to look at it. "Camera?"

Magnus comes over and squints at it. "You know, I think it is!" He glances at the box itself. "Yeah, that says Instant Print Digital Camera."

[biteybaby]

"Why it's panda?"

[summerdude]

Magnus shrugs. "Maybe cuz they're cute?"

[biteybaby]

"Oh, yeah," she says with a grin. "It very cute. Never sawed a panda camera though." Sunny pauses, then adds, "Pandera."

[summerdude]

Magnus cackles. "You," he says, coming over to deposit a kiss on the top of her head, "are a genius at words. I haven't seen a pandera before, either. You wanna figure out how to make it work, or do you wanna save that for after we find the walkie talkies?"

[biteybaby]

"Let's find talkie talkies first. Then we pick up pile and go somewhere comfy and figure out pandera and talkie talkies at same time."

[summerdude]

"Perfect. You're also a genius at plans." Magnus heads back over to the shelves. "You think the walkie talkies would be hidden in a box of dice?"

[biteybaby]

Sunny can't see the box of dice in question. "How big? Talkie talkie bigger than dices."

[summerdude]

"The box is really big." Magnus eases it off the shelf and gives it a shake. It says DICE on the side in Sharpie marker, and it rattles like there's hundreds of dice inside.

[biteybaby]

"Let's look!"

[summerdude]

He thumps it on the floor next to Sunny and sits on the other side. "Okay," he says, pulling it open. There are hundreds of dice inside. He starts sifting through them.

[biteybaby]

Sunny starts digging through it. "These dices look weird." Usually dices only look like boxes, but there's different shapes in here too.

[summerdude]

"I think they're dice for special games? I bet Shen Yuan would know."

[biteybaby]

Sunny finds one that is almost a ball it has so many sides, but it's made out of clear plastic and she can see a teeny tiny little yellow duckie on the inside. She carefully sets that one in their pile of stuff to take home.

"Should have brought wagon," she says, looking at it all.

"We'll figure it out," Magnus promises her. "You have big arms, you can carry most of that stuff, right?"
