"And then we realized Frigg was knitting with clouds. Actual factual clouds," Magnus says, passing another box that, as it turns out, holds nothing useful down to Galahad. He climbs up another rung on the little stepladder and starts in on the next shelf. "How many boxes of Legos do we have so far?" He knows it's certainly not enough for a bachelorette party yet, but surely there's something they can go on. He'd kind of tonight that this far after Dark, there would be... more? "Do you think we should find another room to look in? Maybe the game room isn't the best choice."

Magnus sits down on the right side. "Okay," he says. "On the count of three, we go down, okay? One... two... three!" And he pushes off.

Galahad tries to time it so he pushes off at nearly the same time, and goes flying along with Magnus. The slide has waves in it that keep their speed up, and it's a long one, as the amount of climbing promised. Galahad's dandelion-seed puff of hair blows in the draft they make.

They reach the ground at the same time. "Gods," Magnus breathes. "It's been years since I've gone down a slide that good. Most of them are, like, kid-sized. So you don't go very far."

"We should keep this one too, if we can."

[summerdude]

"We're absolutely going to try to keep this one," Magnus says, emphatically. "What next? Swings or something else?"

[onthewillowsthere]

"Swings. I know about swings." Not like these you don't, kiddo.

[summerdude]

"Yeah? You had swings back home?"

[onthewillowsthere]

"I've read about them."

[summerdude]

"They have swings in romance novels?" Magnus asks, heading over toward the swingset.

[onthewillowsthere]

"Yes. Swinging can be very romantic," he says, straight-faced.

[summerdude]

"How?" asks Magnus, taking a swing and backing it up to get a good starting launch.

[onthewillowsthere]

"Usually the person who is pushing the swing is in love with the person on it, but neither of them has said anything yet."

[summerdude]

"I hate to break it to you," Magnus says, in deeply sorrowful tones. "But I'm not in love with you. Secretly or otherwise. My affections are otherwise taken. You see, there's this girl... sometimes he's a boy... she can turn into a wombat." Then he grins. "Also, you don't even need to be pushed on a swing. You can push yourself. Observe:" and he launches off, pumping his legs to get more lift.

"What does a wombat look like?" He alights in the other swing and begins the slow process of creating his own momentum as a normal person with normal-person pushing ability.

[summerdude]

"Kind of like an angry koala-groundhog," Magnus says, after a moment of deep reflection. (Well. A moment of feeling the wind in his hair, at least.)

"I don't know what either of those are," Galahad says, unconcerned by this fact.

[summerdude]

"We'll find a bestiality that has them later," Magnus says, equally unconcerned.

[onthewillowsthere]

"Okay." The momentum is starting to gather, and as he swings into the air he understands less why this is romantic but more why it's fun.

When Magnus is going as high as he dares -- pretty damn high -- he lays back flat, gripping the chains tight in his hands, closes his eyes, and whoops.

Well, he's obviously going to try that -- and as soon as he has the height he does, flattening his stiff body for a glorious swoop, yet another thing that makes his stomach flip.

Magnus sighs. This is a weird playground -- oversized; it feels like they're outside but he can't tell if there's anything here but the playground -- but he's thrilled to have found it. He starts pumping his legs again, coasting higher.

Galahad can't catch up to him, but he's happy just to soar. It's a wild, free feeling.

At the apex of his swing forward, Magnus (of course) leaps off the swing, twisting wildly for about half a second before landing, hard, on his feet. He whoops again.

He opens his eyes to see what Magnus has done, and -- definitely doesn't do that. He's still getting used to what his new weak body can and can't do, but this seems risky. Instead he stops actively swinging and lets himself start to slow naturally.

And Magnus come back to his swing and sits on it, idly, grinning.

Then he says, "Want me to push you even though I'm not secretly in love with you?"
